Kanmi Kissa Kochō
A spoonful of sweetness, down a Tsukiji alley.
Tucked down an alley of Tsukiji's Sumiyoshi Market, behind a tonkatsu shop, sits a tiny sweets café. The signature is the ice-cream monaka — crisp, toasty monaka wafers cradling vanilla, matcha, or strawberry ice cream. Oshiruko, anmitsu, and a quiet bowl of matcha, served at a counter of just nine seats, in the calm of an old-fashioned kissaten.
Opened on 20 June 2020 — a sweets shop that quietly lit its lamp in a corner of Tsukiji in the midst of the pandemic. A step off the market's bustle and down an alley, it serves sweetness a spoonful at a time.
